NUMBER 1
TRAP PAP - Counter That (Ft SPL Haiti)
Baltimore, United States
Kicking this week off with an absolute banger of a track is Baltimore-based rapper Trap Pap with his track, "Counter That". Collaborating with fellow artist SPL Haiti and producer BrettCoxy elevates the roof off of this week's Chart! The song samples "Warren G - Regulate". Now, name ONE person who does not absolutely love that song? Using this legendary track as a sample is a move that pays off (literally). "Counter That" takes the classic essence of "Regulate" and adds some heavy 808s, trap beats and autotuned vocals. Man, this is a whole vibe that you need to get down to! I grabbed the video this week too so go check it out in our Video Chart!
NUMBER 2
THABO COURTNEY - April 23
Miami, FL, United States
Thabo Courtney brings some serious flavour to our chart this week. This track is so soulful, making for a great addition to a relaxation or sex playlist. If you need an aphrodisiac I'm sure that Thabo Courtney will hit the spot this week! Pure vibes all round! This piece offers a broad vocal range from the highest of the high to the deep and low. The sensuality of the VSTs and guitar layers add to the depth of the piece. This is definitely my favourite this week! If you want to see some visuals then be sure to check the video out in our Top 10 Videos this week too!
NUMBER 3
X&ND - Can You Let Me In? (feat. Melodie Wagner)
Atlanta, United States
X&ND is without a doubt one artist that I know is about to blow! Through his second single "Can You Let Me In?", his heart is wide open in pursuit of the depth of true love. The Atlanta-based singer/songwriter invites listeners into an intimate conversation woven with empathy and the longing for a more in-depth relationship. The artist currently has a whopping 215k+ stream and 17k listeners as well as grabbing onto a spot on Spotify's R&B Feels Playlist.
Produced by Harrison Wood, ‘Can You Let Me In?’ merges the catchiness of synthpop with R&B and soul to offer listeners one hell of a track! The record also features lyrics and performances from Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter, Melodie Wagner (Gimme Your Love, Stan Walker; This Is What’s Important, Billy Davis).
NUMBER 4
Eric Cohen - False Realities
Kansas City, United States
Well, this is a track that I am super excited to have found this week. The darkness within the lyrics, the haunting production and the anger in the execution of the vocals are something that always hits a special place within my dark side. "False Realities" reminds me of the artist Dax, remember him? well, he's one of my favourite artists of all time and hearing this piece reminds me of his energy and his pain making this a piece that I truly feel with every part of me! Eric Cohen made the following statement about the piece - "I wrote this song to expose what I see as false realities that we sometimes tend to believe." This is a track that was influenced by artists such as TobyMac, Tupac, Mac Miller, Tech N9ne and was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Ryan Upton, Uptown Productions.
NUMBER 5
PROKLAIM – YSL
Windhoek, Namibia
Widhoek's very own PROKLAIM makes yet another appearance in our Hip-Hop, Rap & R&B chart this week. This time blowing us away with his new single "YSL", PROKLAIM brings flows on flows that ride on catchy medieval strings to lift listeners into a new territory of PROKLAIM's artistry. "YSL" opens with the clear message that "procrastination is the devil" ironically, the artist clearly did not give in to the temptation based on the energy and skill of the piece. This is another quality production from PROKLAIM that promises to raise the bar that he had previously set himself!
NUMBER 6
BREON S.Y.N.D.E.L - Aquarius
Brooklyn, United States
BREON S.Y.N.D.E.L is a regular chart contender over at TJPL NEWS. Back with his latest release "Aquarius", listeners will find themselves whisked away to a land of the stars through dreamy yet dark bell VSTs and a mechanical trap percussion in the background. Autotuned vocals bring a sense of futurism to BREON S.Y.N.D.E.L's rap game. One thing that I love hearing is distorted dark vocal effects, this track does that perfectly. "Aquarius" is another great release for the artist! Check out the video for "Aquarius" in our Top 10 Videos this week too!
NUMBER 7
PRIME SINISTER – Barium
London, United Kingdom
Fresh out of London, UK rising star "Prime Sinister" presents his latest release "Barium". The track has been out for a little over a week but has been making quite an impression amongst the artist's following that is just short of 5000 monthly listeners on Spotify alone. Proving comfortably that they are an artist on the rise, Prime Sinister impresses listeners with a classic boom bap and UK Rap influence that is accompanied by a haunting yet fun piano loop in "Barium". If you want to hear lyrical genius then click the link below and see what Prime Sinister has to offer!
NUMBER 8
DIONEESUS - The Fesival
Pittsburgh, United States
"The Festival" by Pittsburgh-based DIONEESUS is a track that you need to hear! Bridging the realms of rap rock, groove, world music, Hip-Hop, Funk and indie rock sure sounds like an impossible task yet it is one that DIONEESUS prove to be more than achievable. Beginning with world influence that meditates chants above a Hip-Hop drum progression is something that may seem hard to envision until it has been heard within this song...and it holds my stamp of approval as one of my favourite parts of this piece. This week has been incredible for creative uniqueness! If DIONEESUS is your favourite then make sure that you vote in the poll below.
NUMBER 9
DAMMY - Waste No Time
London, United Kingdom
Dammy wastes no time with his latest hit...no, literally, the track is called "Waste No Time". In this piece, listeners are given all kinds of soul-moving beats and wordplay! Opening with a guitar riff always hits different when it comes to Hip-Hop, Rap and R&B and this introduction is no different. If you're a fan of traditional Hip-Hop fuelled guitar and infectious drum loops then look no further than DAMMY's "Waste No Time" as this piece will quench your thirst by the bucket load! P.S, if you find yourself wanting more, the video is featured on GRM, so make sure that you check that out too!
NUMBER 10
MDL CHLD - NUMB
Toronto, Canada
MLD CHLD brings something new to our Chart this week in the form of his new single "NUMB". The song talks of drug abuse and loneliness whilst making it clear that nothing is being done to change it. The beat is one that isn't typically connected to the rap genre offering listeners a new perspective of the craft whilst the rap flow rides between pop and rap. This is a super cool production that challenges the new wave of genres that are influencing modern-day rap. If you are looking for something bold and daring then MLD CHLD is an artist that you should definitely check out!
