VICTOR SERGE

The Rise And Fall Of Capitalism In A Post-Bleasedale World

Liverpool, United Kingdom

In a land not so far away, Victor Serge are sitting somewhere in the Middle of Liverpool making conceptual music. The group formed around a year ago after being introduced by a mutual friend who had recognised the duo's synchronicities in “oddities”.

After performing their first live performance just last month at a Violette Records night in Liverpool, the group has taken an intriguing method to their image during performances. Claiming that they “dress up as ski instructors on stage when our only experience of skiing is sledging down Everton Hills on a wheel bin lid.” Proves a comedic side to the pair’s personalities.

So, who are Victor Serge?

Ed Doherty takes on the roles of -vocalist and keys player whilst JJ Jones works on production, enhancements and keys. Taking influence from the likes of a multitude of artistic disciplines, their main inspirations come from the basis of Bowie, Alan Vega, Orwell, Russian literature and Futurist art.

Who creates songs that are based on relationships between institutions and the mind – Highlighting the philosophical nature of the group's identity.

‘The Rise And Fall Of Capitalism In A Post-Bleasedale World’ is about individuality and control, the coerciveness of the state and possible ways out.

The production elements resemble leftfield, electro-experimental art pop with an opening of bubbly electronic bass, techno synths and an 80s Rock/Pop vocal arrangement. Working alongside producer Steve Powell who mixed the track, Victor Serge has been able to lift each contrasting element of the song in a way that highlights each and every element present.
