Finnish Metal Band Turns The Weeknd’s Hit into a Heavy Live Anthem

Stråle Transforms The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights into a Metal Masterpiece

Helsinki, Finland – Finnish metal band Stråle has taken The Weeknd’s record-breaking hit Blinding Lights and infused it with their signature heavy sound. Released on December 11, 2024, during their European tour, this hard-hitting cover brings a new dimension to the global pop anthem, blending its infectious melodies with chugging guitars, powerful vocals, and a high-energy metal edge.

A Winning Formula

Produced and mixed by Teemu Aalto (Insomnium, Omnium Gatherum) and mastered by Svante Forsback (Rammstein, Volbeat, Apocalyptica), the track delivers polished intensity. Stråle’s vocalist Daniel Jakobsson brings a commanding yet emotional performance, perfectly suited to the song’s danceable rhythms and epic choruses.

“I love singing Blinding Lights,” Daniel shares. “It’s perfect for my voice, and the audience always dances and sings along. For me, that’s what it’s all about—connecting with the crowd and creating unforgettable moments.”

From Stage to Studio

Stråle first introduced Blinding Lights to their live set during their Motocultor Across Europe Tour 2024, where it became a fan favourite across legendary venues like The Underworld in London and Le Petit Bain in Paris.

Teemu Aalto recounts: “When the band pitched the idea of recording the song, I was skeptical—it’s been covered so many times. But the demo blew me away! Their version keeps the danceable, melodic heart of the original but adds a thunderous metal twist that’s truly unique.”
