Robin Swann, a singer-songwriter from Salt Lake City, United States, released their new single "Flaunt You" on 26 April 2025 . Written and composed by Robin and produced by longtime friend Xander Lee, Flaunt You captures the emotional complexities of growing up queer in a conservative environment, while celebrating the dream of open, fearless love.
Robin and Xander first connected during a songwriting class at Brown University, building a friendship that led to ongoing musical collaborations. For this track, the two worked remotely — recording vocals through Discord, with Robin using a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface and an AT2020 microphone balanced on a camera tripod. Robin recorded vocals at home, explaining:
“The recording took place in my bedroom, where I wish I could bring my girl. :( ”
Flaunt You was born from a specific personal experience. After visiting a girlfriend’s family and feeling welcomed — a stark contrast to Robin’s own upbringing — inspiration struck. Reflecting on the emotional weight behind the song, Robin shared:
“I had been seeing a girl for a few months, and our relationship was progressing well. However, growing up in Utah with homophobic parents/in a generally conservative atmosphere, my growing affection for her was always paralleled by a growing sense of fear and anxiety.”
Robin continued:
“It felt like a betrayal to our bond every time I came home from a date and had to obscure it from my mom, as I knew from our previous conversations about sexuality that her reactions would be negative.”
Written in a single sitting after a significant date, Flaunt You is also a milestone in Robin’s songwriting:
“This is the first song I’ve put out that explicitly states I’m in love with a girl.”
Musically, the track draws influence from artists like Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepsen, Sabrina Carpenter, and Peach PRC. The production style, crafted by Xander Lee, merges the intimacy of bedroom pop with the broader sonic palettes shaped by legends like Max Martin and Jack Antonoff.
