Replaced By Robots Unveils Debut Single and Video “The Laboratory”

On November 4th, 2024, Replaced By Robots emerged onto the music scene with their original video “The Laboratory,” a sonically adventurous track that encapsulates themes of human obsolescence in a tech-dominated world. With influences ranging from lovesick Devo, punk, to 80s new wave, this Portsmouth-based trio delivers a striking debut that challenges and captivates.

About the Band

Replaced By Robots is a genre-defying music project hailing from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and features a dynamic trio of key contributors. Heather Joy Morgan, whose background lies in fine oil-painting (with a Master’s degree from Yale), brings her fresh take on sonic artistry to the group. Goolkasian, also known as The Texas Governor, injects chaos and a wealth of experience from his days with The Elevator Drops in Boston, while Adam Wade adds his loud, rebellious punk guitar, staying true to his roots in bands like The Funeral Party and The Uprisers.

The diverse artistic backgrounds of these members come together to create a truly original soundscape that finds beauty in the chaotic.

The Sound and Inspiration

“The Laboratory” is a genre-blending exploration inspired by 80s new wave, punk, and shoegaze, all underpinned by a futuristic theme. The band describes it as the “soundtrack to our inevitable replacement by robots,” using innovative techniques and influences to shape a song that captures both the wonder and dread of our ever-evolving relationship with technology. The track’s mastering, done by Terry Palmer, ensures that the high-energy sound maintains its polished edge.

Behind the Music

The story of The Laboratory offers commentary on life in a world increasingly controlled by technology. The lyrics and composition express a sense of urgency and anticipation as they explore the shifting dynamics between humans and robots. As the band says, "We love finding beauty in the chaotic world we live in," and this mantra is vividly present in the song's construction.

The music video accompanying “The Laboratory” further emphasizes these themes, offering an unforgettable visual experience that adds layers of meaning to the already complex track.

Unique Recording and Artistic Influences

Recorded and perfected with meticulous care, the project’s production also reflects the trio's commitment to pushing boundaries. Heather Joy Morgan’s artistic perspective, Goolkasian’s chaotic vision, and Adam Wade’s unapologetically loud guitar riffs blend seamlessly into a sound that is both nostalgic and innovative.

The band's influences—ranging from Devo's off-kilter energy to the dreamy, washed-out guitars reminiscent of shoegaze—create a sonic experience that feels like stepping into a future both bright and foreboding.

No Live Performances Yet, but Plenty of Buzz

Though Replaced By Robots currently has no live performances planned, the buzz surrounding their debut single is undeniable. Fans are eagerly awaiting the next chapter of this futuristic sound adventure.
