Maze Cricket's 'Sillage': A Dark Synth Journey into the Unknown

Maze Cricket is bringing their sound into the house of dark synth with their latest single, ‘Sillage.’ It’s a track that glows red in the darkness. Arpeggiated synths bring back memories of 80s greats, only now they’re clad in all black, thumping to a progressive rhythm and watching you carefully from the stage. The instrumental is deep — bass in the low end ties the whole construction together with a mighty heft. When the vocals step out from the shadows it is a welcome surprise. They are light and harmonic. They catch the darkness and begin to catalyse it into energy, into light. The song shifts, it begins to rise and we join it on its upward journey.
Indie synth is a fast-expanding category for new music but that doesn’t mean that we can’t enjoy everything that comes of it. Maze Cricket is pushing the genre in a bold new direction. By creating songs with journeys in them — songs that travel with you, songs that grow as you listen to them — Maze Cricket has opened up a whole new avenue of synth. There seems to be no end to the creativity in ‘Sillage,’ the more I listen the more great ideas I happen upon. This is a single to remember, a moving, heartbreaking, and yet inspiring, track for the synthetic masses.
