INTRODUCING *DM Ascension*

INTRODUCTING

DM Ascension

Canberra, Australia

BACKGROUND

Affinity takes its inspiration from the enchanting luminescence of the starry night sky. This dreamy lounge track invites the listener to explore the ether - with a chilled grove and features ARIA award winning jazz legend Miroslav Bukovsky on trumpet. Artists who had an influence on this track include Christophe Goze, Lemongrass and Aandra. Both Mike Dooley and Daniel White who composed and produced this track are very proud and excited to present this latest single.

Who are DM Ascension?

Mike Dooley

Mike Dooley is an Australian-born all-round music extraordinaire having studied composition at the Sydney Conservatorium, including jazz and classical piano privately. Today Mike is best known as pianist composer, song writer and producer.

Daniel White

Daniel White was born in Canberra, Australia and is excited to embark on an explorative journey composing and producing music featuring local and international talents and opportunities in the future.

We decided to reach out to find out more in an interview but first let's talk in depth about 'Affinity'.

AFFINITY REVIEW

DM Ascension have created something extremely special in 'Affinity'. Listening to this track made me want to stay within its realm for infinity. Opening with a smooth synth that is almost vocal choir in sound we become instantly entranced by the feel of the track. The accompaniment of an almost hip-hop drum influenced beat gives us a door to another dimension through its lead. As a ping ponged delay makes an appearance throgh piano synth we get given a layer of something quite acoustic over the top of the mix. Just before the track breaks down we're then given a taste of brass instrumentalisation, but just enough to hint that the production is about to develop further. The production then gives us a shaker percussion with an ambient scratch of a sample. That was an amazing opening minute to this track. Moving further into this piece we hear the brass instrumentalisation in all of its glory as it takes the lead in a spectacular jazz solo that lasts for the remaining duration of the track. The way that the instruments are mixed in this piece are not overly complicated by plugins and effects which allows the listener to really get into the natural feel of each instrument. As the track comes to a close there is a beautifully executed fade out that transitions us slowly back into reality. This is a really lovely piece that is enjoyable to listen to. It is very easy on the mood of the listener. I can envision that this track would fit perfectly on playlists for night time beach walks, outdoor shisha lounges, lazy days and mindfulness sessions such as massage rooms and meditations. I would suggest that the artist applies for sync licensing to get this track out to as many places as possible. It would do well in digital media use such as TV advertisements, beach/date scenes in movies/Television. It was an absolute pleasure to review

INTERVIEW

What would be your ultimate achievement for your latest single?

We have made the top 100 jazz iTunes charts in Australia and Sweden as well as other radio charts. To reach further in the charts and across more countries and radio stations and platforms around the world would be cool

Is there a particular vision that you had when putting the song together?

‘Affinity’ takes inspiration from the starry night sky - combining elements of lounge, chill-out, ambient and jazz. Above all, we wanted the listener to feel relaxed and taken on a journey.

If you could define music in one short sentence (no cheating) what would you say?

Music is essential in life for experiencing thoughts, feelings and connecting with yourself and other people

When did you first realize that you had the potential to be an artist?

After our debut release ‘Oceana’ the feedback we received from fans all over the world was elating and after being featured on radio programs like Costa Del Mar – Chillout and Brussels Airlines VIP Lounge as well as many others was something we have and continue to celebrate.

Is there a memory that has stuck in your mind as the turning point for you?

Discovering heartfelt comments and messages from listeners and fans as well as making numerous charts around the world has been the turning point for us

How would you define your sound?

Chilled out jazz with cool grooves and beats

Cubase, Protools, or neither?

Neither

This might be a tricky one but Studio vs Live - Which do you prefer and why?

Unfortunately, we have not played live yet and look forward to doing so in the future, as we really want to connect with more people and share our music and experiences.

How do you collaborate with vocalists and other artists?

Mike’s presence and influence as a jazz pianist, composer and producer has enabled Mike and I to reach out to a variety of artists and vocalists with ease and collaborating is something we love to do.

If you had the opportunity to work with one of your favorite musical artists, who would you most like to collaborate with and why?

We have always admired several artists, but in particular in the jazz, lounge and chill-out genre’s we’ve always revered the work of Christophe Goze and would relish the opportunity to work with Christophe in the future.

What are your future plans?

We are about to start working on another exciting project and track that we hope to be releasing it in the next few months.

What can we look forward to for the rest of 2022?

We are planning on releasing more singles throughout 2022 and into 2023
