Upbeat, Funky, and Irresistible – Gianfranco GFN Delivers a Musical Elixir for the Soul
Gianfranco GFN has delivered to the world an upbeat funky single with ‘Doctor Wind.’ It’s a single that makes you move whether you like it or not, a single that pushes you to dance, to make a time of it. The opening is brisk, flooding you with colour and beautiful beats. They blend together, creating a matrix of funk. They pull back, holding off for just a moment. The vocals take centre stage, they fly, they kick, they shimmy. The light reflects off their sequinned uniforms as they duet, harmony, and soliloquy. They fight for the centre but it’s in vain. The funk throws them to the wayside.
When a single opens this hard it’s difficult not to love it. That crash! Loud round, hit with a guitar, slide with a bass. What more can you ask for in music? Funk holds within it a unique characteristic, that even if you’re no funk fan, you don’t listen to it ever, and it never grabs you; when a funk song comes on you can’t help yourself. Funk is music for the body, it’s a soul tonic. If a funk track — or a track that incorporates funk ideals such as ‘Doctor Wind’ — falls short of this feeling, it’s a disappointment. Thankfully, Gianfranco GFN knows what they’re doing. High, bright, loud, full of flavour, a bridge that crams it all together and a big finish. Splendid.
‘Doctor Wind’ is a smile song. It’s more than feel good, it forces that good onto you. One moment you’re down and out, looking at grey clouds list on the horizon. Then wham! ‘Doctor Wind’ has you up and at ‘em. The fire in your step comes from the hi-hat, the beat in your belly from the bass. The smile on your face, however, that’s from the whole thing combined. An indie funk track that feels as good as gold. Solid.
