Delta of Venus – Disengaged b/w Slipping: A Shoegaze Reimagining of Feminine Resistance

“Disengaged b/w Slipping” marks the official debut video from Delta of Venus, a Mystic-based band blending indie pop and shoegaze into something deeply cinematic and poetically resonant. Released on March 25th, the long-form visual was directed, styled, and filmed by renowned Mystic photographer Michelle Gemma, and edited by James Canty.

The concept reimagines Joan of Arc not as a martyred teen, but as a mythic force who survives to lead a modern movement of feminine resistance—set fittingly in present-day Mystic, Connecticut. Delta of Venus bring this mythic arc to life through two gorgeously layered tracks from their November 2024 double A-side single: “Disengaged” and “Slipping”.

The band is fronted by Ellery Twining (guitars), Issy (vocals, lyrics), Mat Tarbox (bass/sequencer), and Shawn Fake (drums), recorded and produced by Eric M. Lichter at Dirt Floor Studio, engineered by Guido Falivene. Their sound merges hazy shoegaze atmospherics with melodic dream pop, laying the perfect sonic bed for the visual’s emotive storytelling.

The video was filmed over several weeks and features models Fiona, Emma, Maya, Izzy N., Nora, and Issy P. The House of 1833, provided by Evan Nickles, served as a key visual location, amplifying the film’s historical and mystical tones.

With themes of empowerment, mythology, and resistance, “Disengaged b/w Slipping” is more than a video—it’s a haunting tribute to feminine strength and timeless storytelling, seen through the lens of Mystic’s foggy shorelines and Delta of Venus’s emotionally immersive sound.

Delta of Venus deliver a shoegaze masterstroke with “Disengaged b/w Slipping”, blending dream pop melodies and mythic visuals to reimagine Joan of Arc in modern Mystic, CT.
